About AFS

The African & Mediterranean Finance Society (AfriMed Finance Society or AFS) is an academic organization that aims at becoming a premier international forum for studying, communicating, encouraging, and celebrating the latest research in financial economics. AFS is particularly devoted to promoting knowledge and knowledge mobilization in Africa. AFS aims also to provide a mutual association of academics, practitioners, and doctoral students with an interest in researching relevant questions in the greater field of Finance to improve public understanding of financial economic problems. AFS encourages the study of finance in the African & Mediterranean economies and elsewhere in the world.

AFS 2026 will be held at the University of Catania – Department of Economics and Business – Palazzo delle Scienze: Corso Italia 55, Catania 95129, Italy. Catania is a well-connected city with multiple travel options, including plane, car, bus, and train. Join us from July 16 to July 18, 2026, for an engaging exchange of ideas in this vibrant Mediterranean city.

Getting to the Conference Venue

Upon arrival at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, there are multiple ground transportation options to reach the Department of Economics and Business, located at Corso Italia, No. 55.

By Plane

Catania–Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), also known as Vincenzo Bellini Airport, is about 8 km from the city center and serves as Sicily’s busiest airport, offering connections to major European cities.

By Car / Taxi

Catania is accessible via major highways. Parking options are available near the University, but prior arrangements may be necessary.

Taxis are located outside Arrivals. White cars with “TAXI” on the roof. Call +39 095 330966 (Radiotaxi) or +39 095 386794 (night service) for service.

By Bus

The AMTS “Alibus” (https://www.amts.ct.it/alibus) connects the airport to the city center. First bus leaves at 04:40, last at 00:30. Buses run every 25 minutes. Tickets can be purchased onboard or at AMTS offices. Nearest stop to the department: "Italia".

By Train/Metro

The “Fontanarossa” train stop is connected to the airport by AMTS shuttle (~600 m walk). Buy integrated train + shuttle tickets at Trenitalia. From “Catania Centrale” station, take M1 metro towards Nesima and get off at the “Italia” stop.
